Mr. Obayed Ullah Al Masud

Chairman, Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC

Mr. Md. Obayed Ullah Al Masud is a prominent Bangladeshi banker who currently serves as the Chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC.

He has a distinguished career in the banking sector, having previously held leadership positions at other major banks in Bangladesh.

Early Life and Education

Mr. Masud hails from a noble family in Nawabgonj, Dhaka. He was born on December 10, 1960. He pursued his higher education at the University of Dhaka, where he earned an Honors degree in Management in 1982. He furthered his academic credentials by obtaining an MBA in Finance from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Dhaka University. 

Banking Career

Mr. Masud’s journey in the banking sector commenced in 1983 when he joined Agrani Bank as a Senior Officer.

His dedication and expertise led him to assume various roles of increasing responsibility within the bank. Notably, he served as the Deputy Managing Director of Agrani Bank before transitioning to Karmasangsthan Bank as its Managing Director.   

In 2016, Mr. Masud was appointed as the Managing Director of Sonali Bank, a position he held until 2019. During his tenure at Sonali Bank, he implemented several initiatives aimed at recovering defaulted loans and introduced low-interest housing loans for government employees.   

Following his stint at Sonali Bank, Mr. Masud took on the role of Managing Director at Rupali Bank from 2019 to 2022. His leadership at Rupali Bank was marked by a focus on financial stability and growth.   

Chairmanship of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC

In October 2024, Mr. Masud was appointed as the Chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC. This appointment signifies the recognition of his exceptional leadership qualities and extensive experience in the banking sector. As Chairman, Mr. Masud is expected to play a pivotal role in guiding the bank towards further success and ensuring its continued contribution to the Bangladeshi economy
